Awards: 2022 #1 Pac-12 Rushing Yards (1359) and Yards Per Carry (7)
Measurables: (AVAILABLE POST COMBINE/PRO DAY)
Games Watched: 2022 vs. USC, 2022 vs. Cal
PRO’S
Zach Charbonnet is a patient runner, trusts his vision and commits with urgency. Strong ball carrier, marries his cuts with the ability to bull through defenders if he fails to avoid contact. Sound/reliable receiving option out of the backfield, strong hands. Harder to take down as he picks up steam. Has the ideal frame of a feature back, runs hard and stays behind his pads, utilizing his size/strength.
CON’S
Decent athlete but I do not see elite quickness or the ability to make defenders miss regularly in the open field. Will not be breaking away for long touchdown runs. When defenders get initial penetration, Zach has a tough time avoiding contact when headed downhill.
OVERALL
Charbonnet is a grinder and doesn’t get worn down as the game goes on. Where Charbonnet wins is with vision, anticipation and then acceleration. Does a good job of lowering his pad level and being the contact initiator when defenders close in on him. Charbonnet will not be a guy who rips off chunk yardage in the passing game but he’ll help extend drives by consistently catching the football and gaining positive yardage. Limited top speed but fast enough to get by defenders at the 1st and 2nd level of the defense.
