PRO’S
Verse plays at an athletic 254 pounds. His powerful legs allow him to spring off the line. He’s a premier speed to power rusher. Elite twitch. Verse combines explosiveness with hand placement to win pass rush reps. He places his hand low on the offensive lineman’s frame to set up the bull rush. Verse now has two productive seasons at FSU. He clearly got better as the season went on, and looked more explosive as he adapted to the football season. He’ll be able to win NFL reps instantly with refined speed to power and relentless rush. Verse has the potential to take over games, and he did so against Louisville in their conference matchup. He has active hands and strikes first. Verse also displayed a productive swim move.
CON’S
While athletic, Verse is still on the smaller side for edge rushers. He occasionally will unnecessarily stutter when setting up moves, which kills his explosiveness. Verse isn’t a bendy edge winner. When he’s forced to win with bend, Verse’s pass rush productivity drops. He can be overly reliant on speed to power, and lineman clearly expected it. Duke’s Graham Barton bottled Verse up for a significant part of the game. Verse loses reps when he tries to win with pure mass.
OVERALL
Jared Verse returned to FSU for another year, and clearly spent time polishing his pass rush technique. He’ll instantly have a way to win reps with his speed to power, bull rush and explosive release. At his size however, it’ll be harder for him to do that in the NFL. Verse is an instant edge starter and has the skills to produce immediately. His frame may prevent him from becoming a superstar, but Verse has pro bowl and all pro potential.
