PRO’S
Explosive, elite speed. Even when Wiggins seems to be trailing or out of position, he can make up ground IN A HURRY. Pairs speed with length and vertical burst (high point ability). Quick trigger when adjusting from back pedal to break, closes on football/receiver in a hurry. Ball skills and production, 3 INTs & 19 Passes defended over the last 2 seasons. Does a good job of finishing at the catch point, playing through the receivers hands to the football. Great feet at LOS when lined up nose to nose with a receiver, does a good job of quickly mirroring WR and affecting his release point. 2023 vs. Miami, 1st quarter, running back breaks a 80 yard gain up the middle, Wiggins never gives up on the play, Wiggins comes from the right sideline, tracks down the ball carrier and strips out the ball at the goal line. HUSTLE/HEART!
CON’S
Will get bullied at the point of attack by blockers on the perimeter. Though Wiggins is lengthy and can jump through the gym, he can get out muscled at the catch point by possession receivers, and may be at a disadvantage in red zone situations depending on the match-up. At times he’s in great position but becomes too locked in on the receiver which could lead to PI at the next level, would like to see him use his body to feel for the receiver while taking a peek back for the football.
OVERALL
As a sophomore, Wiggins produced 12 PBUs and fell 1 shy of Clemson’s Sophomore record. During the 2023 season, Wiggins was targeted 41 times and only gave up 18 receptions (43.9%). Wiggins is a long, explosive, fluid athlete who excels in man coverage and has great ball skills (19 passes defended and 3 INTs over last 2 seasons). Great hips and great feet, mirrors receivers with ease. Though the willingness is there as a run defender, Wiggins tends to get washed out due to his lack of play strength. I expect Wiggins to put on a show at the NFL combine and put himself in the top 15-12 pick conversation.
