PRO’S

Jake Haener has the full pocket passing full skillset. He throws an extremely catchable ball with great timing. Haener is a very capable medium/short thrower with above average velocity. He plays the “point guard” role very well, dishing out passes with his quick release. While he doesn’t take many deep shots, Haener takes what the defense gives him and makes the easy throws. A true competitor, he was barely recruited out of high school and transferred from Washington before making a name for himself. Haener makes the necessary pre-snap adjustments and won’t have much trouble adjusting to NFL schemes.

CON’S

Haener is already 24 years old and I doubt he has much more to grow as a quarterback. In terms of athleticism he’s capped out, and his accuracy and touch may also be maxed out. He doesn’t have high end traits to stand out in the NFL as a franchise guy. His deep balls are inconsistent and occasionally underthrown. He doesn’t have ideal measurements (6’0”, 207 lbs) and has some passes batted at the line of scrimmage. Modern NFL Qb’s continue to get more athletic, with Haener looking like a player of the past.

OVERALL

Jake Haener doesn’t have the size, speed or arm talent to wow NFL teams, but he excels at everything in his control. His ability to read and react to defenses gives him a high floor as a Quarterback. Haener is a high end backup QB that can be a low-end starter with the right roster around him. His progressions skills and football IQ will stick him on the roster in training camp. Far from an exciting pick, Haener may be the Quarterback to save a season when the starter goes down.
