PRO’S

Cedric Tillman possesses great size for an X, coming in at 6’3” and over 210 Lbs. Quick hands, good at hand fighting and staying clean when DBs are trying to press. Strong/Physical, overpowering to defensive backs after the catch. Looks as if there is a tether between his eyes and the football when he’s closing in on the catch, very strong concentration and hand eye coordination. Moss’d a South Carolina corner (2022, 4th QTR, 1:14), just out-physicaled the defender and snatched the football out of the air.

CON’S

Struggles a bit with stop start speed when dropping his hips on hard braking routes. Tennessee liked to get him vertical, Tillman has shown a limited route tree. There were pass plays in which Tillman barely gets off the LOS, it appears those were designed as a way to give him a breather and he wasn’t actually in the game plan but there were a few instances when Hooker looked his way off the snap so it’s hard to tell. Though he is big and strong and can overpower defenders, he’s not very quick or elusive and struggles to make defenders miss after the catch.

OVERALL

In 2021, Tillman finished the season with 1081 yards receiving and became the first Volunteer to surpass 1000 yards since Justin Hunter in 2012. Tillman only appeared in 6 games in 2022 due to an ankle injury which laid the path for Jalin Hyatt to take over as the team’s new number #1 option. Tillman will be coveted by those teams looking for a true X, he will fit in easily with a team that runs 3-4 receivers regularly in a pass heavy offense. He will need to hone his craft if he wants to be relied upon in a role in which he’ll need to be responsible for creating his targets.
