PRO’S

Rashee Rice has good hips/feet at the breaking point, which allows for clean sudden transitions. Rice has great spacial awareness after the catch and moves from receiver to ball carrier with ease. Rice does a good job of coming back to the football rather than sitting in his route and waiting for the ball to arrive. Rice showed his toughness against UCF as the lead blocker for a bubble screen, attacked the DB, got in his shoulder pads and aggressively fought to maintain leverage. Rice has decent size but he does a good job of making himself easy to spot for the QB by getting big at the end of his routes.

CON’S

Did not see an expansive route tree from Rice which is a bit of a concern. I also did not see Rice get moved around much in the SMU offense which results in a lack of experience from different positions in the passing attack. At times he battles the ball and this results in drops or double catches.

OVERALL

Rice is an ideal fit for an offense like the Chargers or the Bills that plans on throwing the football 40+ times a game. I don’t see Rice coming in and being a dominant WR1 but I do see him being a receiver who could potentially demand a significant amount of targets positioning him as the WR1B/WR2.
