Plated! – Romeo Doubs

We spend all off-season following every player’s move, breaking down the statistics from previous years, and listening to every podcast that’s out there. You’re gathering all your ingredients to master your recipe for the perfect fantasy football team! Once that draft begins, the clock starts ticking! You and your league mates are all battling it out against each other and the clock! Who will think quickly on their feet and plate the perfect roster? Once we take a look at our final dish, we are left to wonder, is this a perfect balance of sweet and savoury? Or will it turn in our stomachs, leaving us running for the toilet? Fantasy football is one tough judge to please with sudden twists and turns throughout the year, so I will be bringing you a player breakdown each week to see if the ingredient is right for you! Get your palates ready, because for the first week we take a look at the rookie wide receiver out of Green Bay, Romeo Doubs. Being drafted three rounds after fellow rookie wideout Christian Watson, Doubs took advantage of the early absences of Watson and started catching eyes in the preseason with his instant showing of big play ability. Many were wondering, with no real true WR1 on the Packers can Doubs find a consistent role on the team and for your fantasy roster?

At this point in the season, he is a must-have for all rosters. After a strong showing in the past two games, Doubs seems poised to turn up the heat and we could soon see him at a rolling boil. This is not the first time he’s been noticed here at Toilets to Titles. Doubs was first put on the Toilets to Titles waiver Wire episode after week three when he caught all eight of his targets for 73 yards and one score, good enough for 21.3 points in PPR leagues. In week four, he followed that up with five receptions on eight targets for 47 yards and his second touchdown of the year. Doubs was one play away from an even bigger performance when he dropped a 40-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter against the Patriots as he couldn’t hold on as he hit the ground. He also lost a  fumble on his very first reception early on in the game. The back-to-back games now, with both a score and Rodgers looking his way eight times, have been an encouraging sign for fantasy managers. Despite his miscues, Doubs seems to be fitting in well with the Packers, while earning the trust of one of the NFL’s best in Aaron Rodgers.

So far through four weeks of the season, Romeo Doubs leads the team in both targets and receptions, catching 19 passes on 24 targets. He also is tied with Allen Lazard with a pair of touchdowns, leading the Packers. Doubs has been putting the narrative of Rodgers not targeting rookies to rest with a 17% target share of the quarterback’s 33.2 attempts. With all this in just his first four weeks, Doubs has a chance to take the role of Rodgers’ next trusted wideout.

Next week Doubs and the Packers travel across the pond to take on the New York Giants for the second London game of the year. The Giants have been a tough defense team who have given up the 8th least amount of passing yards through the first four games. Even so, I’m still giving Doubs a go. The bland offense of the Green Bay Packers could soon POP with a little spice of Doubs.
