PRO’S
JC Latham is a monstrous 6’6″ 360 lbs. He has an extremely strong base and aids it with a balanced stance. Latham has two full years of experience at right tackle. He mirrors well as a pass blocker. Latham has the brute strength to seal run blocks and will win pure power battles in pass protection. His hands are constantly active; Latham strikes first to disengage the opponents hands. He’s shown potential as a powerful run game mover. With a lot of pass sets under his belt, it’s no surprise that Latham has been polishing his footwork. He can control defenders with his arms alone. Latham has the base and arm strength to win in a phonebook and secure blocks when locked in.
CON’S
Latham’s size comes with some movement concerns. He can lunge with his hands, putting him in vulnerable positions. His foot speed can be slow and he doesn’t cover enough depth on his kick slide. Latham was beaten off the edge with speed a few times. It’s hard for a player of Latham’s size to be nimble, and his movements can be clunky. While he has the strength to be a run game mover, he didn’t show it enough on tape. Latham can shoot too high with his hands. He’ll occasionally get moved out of his stance altogether. He has a fantastic base, but was bull rushed by Texas defenders multiple times.
OVERALL
JC Latham is a massive right tackle with grown man strength. He’ll win the pure power battle against most NFL rushers, but may face problems early on against speed rushers. He must cover more ground on his slide and might cut down weight to improve his foot speed. Currently, his lack of foot speed limits his ceiling as a pass blocker. He’s decent as a run blocker, but has the traits to heavily improve. Worse case, JC Latham kicks inside and will succeed as a guard. Latham profiles as an immediate starter, with the potential to be a long term right tackle with impressive pass blocking.
