PRO’S
Chris Rodriguez runs at the line of scrimmage as if he was shot out of a cannon. Tough runner who enjoys initiating contact. He gains momentum quickly. Rodriguez pushes defenders against their will, and is a load to bring down. High career YPC, gains chunks of yardage, knows how to follow blocks and find the hole. The type of runner who changes the attitude of an offense. Surprised me with his quickness vs. LSU (2021), 4th qtr, defender met him in the backfield at handoff point, Rodriguez deployed a quick cut. Rodriguez was not knocked off track or slowed down.
CON’S
519 carries over his final three seasons at Kentucky is a lot of tread on his tires. Not the fastest or quickest back, needs space to work, not a creator. Due to his lack of high end speed, the length of his runs are capped. Due to the urgency he runs with, he misses cut back lanes that could equal bigger gains. Will be limited to an early down role.
OVERALL
In 2020, Rordiguez led the SEC in yards per rushing attempt with 6.6. In 2021, he practically doubled his carry total from the previous season and still finished with a stellar 6.1 yards per rushing attempt, which was good for 5th in the SEC. Rodriguez was arrested for a DUI in May which led to a 4-game suspension to start the 2022 season.
