PRO’S
Freeland is a three year starter at BYU, and he is a giant who plays like it. He is a mauler in the run game and can easily make the blocks needed and shift to the next level. Freeland has a lot of size and really strong hands and arms, and can keep the defender locked up. Freeland is a smart player and can read the defenders in front of him quickly. He stayed very healthy in his four year career at BYU, including starting all 26 games combined in the 2021 and 2022 seasons – which is important because “availability” is often the “best ability.” He was a starter in his final 3 seasons.
CON’S
Due to his height, Freeland stands very tall in his blocks and does not have an ideal center of gravity. He has poor foot speed and can easily be beaten by a speed rusher that has any sort of bend. Freeland gets set in his stance and can be easily knocked off balance, and his size makes him prone to cut blocks. Freeland is prone to penalties trying to time snap count so he does not get beat.
OVERALL
Freeland is a project. While yes his size can be an asset, it is also his biggest flaw. Freeland needs to work on his footwork and his blocking height or he will never see the field.
