PRO’S

Length, range & ball skills. Nubin has 8 passes defended & 11 interceptions so far over his career at Minnesota. Eye discipline, shows a great understanding of where he needs to be in his zone & where his threats are coming all the while he is reading the quarterback and anticipating the throw. Uses his wingspan when playing the ball, naturally extends his arms/hands away from his body for the hands catch, something that isn’t always a strong suit of defensive players. Not afraid to use his frame/size, will close quickly and finish with force, has only allowed a total of 4 yards after catch while in coverage through 5 games.

CON’S

Will lunge at the ball carrier instead of driving through the ball carrier upon contact. Will trust his instincts a bit too much at times, playing into the opponent’s hand and putting himself out of position on play action/misdirection. Recovery speed/make-up speed when trailing in man coverage, doesn’t always show the quickness to get to the receivers inside hip when trailing.

OVERALL

Through 5 games played in 2023, Nubins 90.1 PFF Coverage grade is 2nd best amongst draft eligible CB/S & his 3 INTs is 2nd best amongst draft eligible CB/S. Though Nubin excels in coverage, he showcases grit and willingness to mix it up as a downhill player in the run game. Better in coverage over the top than trailing/in the hip of the receiver. In today’s NFL where defensive coordinators like to utilize multiple safety sets in the back end of their defense, I believe Nubin has the experience, size, coverage instincts, ball skills and range to make him a coveted prospect throughout the 2024 NFL Draft cycle.
