PRO’S

Myles Brooks is a legit downfield presence with instincts for the ball! He can anticipate route concepts quickly and has elite ball skills to turn two yds into 32 yds in the blink of an eye (9:22 left in 3rd qtr vs. Middle Tennessee, Brooks is lined up at the bottom of the screen in man coverage w/ safety help to his side. QB throws a 40 yd pass toward the end zone. Brooks leaps two yards early, picks the ball as the WR passes him, and turns upfield for 45 yd gain). At 6’0 201 lbs, Brooks can manipulate defenders and get off blocks quickly to attack the ball carrier. Brooks is a backfield boss; whether it’s reading the run or recognizing a screen development, Myles can close rapidly to make the tackle or disrupt the play (13:14 left in 2nd qtr vs. FIU, Myles Brooks is lined up at the bottom of the screen. At the snap of the ball, Brooks turns his hips to force WR inside and off the outside route. He instantly presses WR and causes him to stumble, resulting in the play being incomplete to the left side). 36% completion percentage in 2022 when targeted, and a QBR of 45.2 proves Myles doesn’t give away any easy catches.

CON’S

Myles’ footwork will be the main knock on him as he tends to be choppy in his backpedal when transitioning in and out of breaks, which leads to him relying on his incline speed to recover. He has to use pure athleticism & instincts when covering top-tier WRs, as Brooks is not a mirror DB. Brooks gets caught playing too straight up & down at the point of release and can fall a step behind.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Teams looking for a physical man to cover DB with take it to the house abilities late in the Draft, then look no further than Myles Brooks. He has elite-level ball skills and can play in contested catch situations with any WR. He must prove he can take on top-tier WR talent at the next level coming from C-USA. Player Comp: Rasul Douglas
