PRO’S

Short area quickness/evasiveness before (at the LOS) and after the catch. Great route runner/good hips/body control, does a good job of setting up defenders and getting them off balance at the top of routes. Long legs/long strider, gets up field quickly when given space. Versatility, in 2022 McConkey was 8th in the SEC in Receptions (58) & 2nd in the SEC in Punt Returns (16) while also carrying the ball 13 times over 3 seasons for 216 yards.

CON’S

Though McConkey has great straight line speed, I don’t always see an extra gear to chase down an over thrown ball. Missed some time in 2023 due to a back injury and back injuries can linger. McConkey has a thin frame and will likely struggle against more physical defenders at the next level and may have to put on some size to handle the over the middle reps he’ll likely be receiving.

OVERALL

McConkey was a key piece of 2 national championship runs for the Georgia Bulldogs. After an electric 2022 season, McConkey was forced to miss 5 games of the 2023 season due to back and ankle injuries. Of all WRs in the 2024 NFL draft, McConkey comes in with the 5th highest career yards per route run (2.54) and his 21.4 MPH max speed season high was the 5th highest max speed amongst WRs in the 2024 NFL Draft. McConkey’s versatility as a receiver and returner should earn him reps early on. I believe McConkey has a similar skillset to that of Josh Downs and should have a similar role year 1.
