Easy Like Thursday Night – Week 16

Your Thursday Night Football DFS advice for 12/22/22, by @DroptheLeashJC!!

Jacksonville Jaguars @ NY Jets

Jets -1.5/36.5

What a mess of a Thursday night group of games it has been this year… We’ve got two left and the matchup this Week 16 has lined up to become more interesting/critical then one would have ever thought at the beginning of the season as technically both the Jags and Jets are still fighting for their playoff lives at 6-8/7-7 respectively.  These Thursday night games have been a rollercoaster from a fantasy perspective and we are ready to finish off strong these final weeks!

The Jags come into Thursday winning 3 out of their last 4 led by an exciting new offense headed by Trevor Lawrence and a formidable group of weapons who include Travis Etienne, Christian Kirk, Zay Jones and Evan Engram. Lawrence has thrown for 300 + yards and 30+ fantasy points two weeks in a row and despite being questionable with a toe sprain we believe that he will play on Thursday.  The Jets unfortunately will be without their new starting QB sensation Mike White and will instead have to start 2021 #2 overall pick QB Zach Wilson who has had a rollercoaster start to his career to say the least!  Wilson, however, did throw for 300 + yards and went for 23 points last week against Detroit and the Jacksonville defense is another friendly match up for the Jets offense.

The Jets also have their own stable of up and coming weapons led by… well really led by RB Breece Hall who is unfortunately injured for the year (is it crazy to think the Jets would be a clear playoff team if Hall stayed healthy)?!?!  In addition to Hall the Jets have enjoyed breakout seasons by RB Zonovan Knight and rookie WR Garrett Wilson, and second year WR Elijah Moore is once again starting to add some production.

As far as this game from a single game fantasy perspective goes… First of all, a 36 over/under seems super low for these two teams especially the way they have been both playing recently, but the Jets do have an above average defense and a back-up QB playing in addition to potential high winds and cold temperatures at MetLife.  We have more legit options than you would think between these two teams so we will start with our “must starts” of the week for the single game:

Trevor Lawrence – As I said above he has two 30+ point games in a row heading into this one and even though I do believe the Jets defense will be respectable I also believe there will be plenty of points to be had by Lawrence as the Jets have a legit run defense and we believe the Jags will have to throw the ball to score their points.

If Mike White were playing he would be on the must start list… As far as Zach Wilson goes if I played two line ups I would play him in one (I know, super helpful right LOL).

Zay Jones – It’s been a season of breakouts for lots of players who had not previously ever broken out… I am thinking about the Cordelle Patersons and now we can add Zay Jones to that list.  Jones has produced double digit point totals in 7 outta 13 played games this year and more recently is extremely hot with 3 out of his last 4 games going over the 20 point total, and 2 of them going over 30!  He has 27 catches and 4 touchdowns on 41 targets over the last 4 games! These are WR 1 type numbers and his salary is still on the cheaper side ($8,200).

Garrett Wilson – The Jets rookie WR has had a crazy season that has seen him catch passes from three different QBs (Flacco, White and Zach Wilson).  Wilson has already proven to be the big play weapon the Jets have needed for years and he is riding a 4 game streak of double digit fantasy points with 2 of those games providing 25 pts +.  We like him even more with Mike White throwing to him but he went 4/98 on 9 targets last week with Zach Wilson throwing to him and we expect to see that same type of volume this week.

We also like guys like Evan Engram, Zonovan Knight and Elijah Moore this week.  As much as we love Travis Entienne and the season he has had overall we don’t love him this week against a solid Jets run defense.
