PRO’S
Size and athleticism. Versatility, used in the box, willing to help vs. the run. Also has the ability to line up with receivers and stay in their pocket. Does a good job coming off of the edge as a blitzer and staying under control when closing the gap on the ball carrier. Good footwork, his long legs don’t get twisted up when staying with WRs in coverage.
CON’S
Long, lean frame makes it easy for blockers to get hands on him in the open field. Will lower his head and over commit when filling the alley.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
Johnson is a safety that belongs in the box. His ability to play the run, blitz off the edge, and cover slot receivers gives him a level of versatility that defensive coordinators covet. Impressed with his ability to cover WRs, did a great job against Treylon Burks in 2021. He looks like a player who has not yet peaked and is one of this class’s hottest Safeties with a strong 2022 season behind him.
