PRO’S

Zay Flowers is explosive, scrappy and twitchy, low center of gravity and every movement he makes is abrupt. Very good after the catch, Zay has a good sense of awareness after the catch to know where his threats are so he can work quickly towards open field. For a slot wide receiver with a smaller frame, I’m impressed with his tenacity when blocking opposing DBs. Great body control and concentration against Rutgers (2022, 1st QTR, 8:43), beats DB, ball is underthrown, stops and falls to the ground while DB rises above him and sees football into hands for touchdown.

CON’S

While Flowers does a lot with his explosiveness he needs to work on his timing a bit, he needs to understand where the other receivers are in their routes, where he’s supposed to be and when. This can carry over to his 1 on 1 match-ups with DBs as well, as he relies heavily on beating his opponent physically (speed, strength), and would like to see him a little more strategic in his routes.

OVERALL

Flowers resume of production at Boston College is very impressive, he finished his collegiate career #4 all time in the ACC in reception TDs (29) and #10 all time in the ACC career receiving yards (3056). Flowers is feisty – he likes to mix it up with DBs when blocking and looks at times as if it is personal. He is physically gifted enough to beat a lot of slot corners at the next level and this will be good enough if he’s in an offense with multiple weapons. If he is somewhere in which he is relied heavily upon to carry the weight of the offense, he’ll need to evolve a bit to handle the task of being the focal point of an opposing defense’s game plan.
