Senior Bowl Standouts: EDGE Edition

The team headed down to Mobile, AL for the Reese’s Senior Bowl and now we will break down the best of the best at each position. Jarod Gray (@JarodGray) covered the LBs and those that stood out to them.

Keion White, DE/DL, Georgia Tech
Keion White had one of the best weeks of any DE in this year’s group. White was tough to handle at times and was much quicker than most expected him to be. White has an elite spin move and he put it on display all week. White improved his draft stock from a day 3 to a day 2 pick in my opinion and he should be very proud of that. And by day 2 I mean early day 2.

Isaiah Foskey, DE, Notre Dame
I have very mixed reviews about Isaiah Foskey. The first two practices, Foskey got beat some and he won some. Day 3, Foskey was unstoppable, Fokey looked like the player we all thought he could be going into the Senior Bowl. Isaiah dominated and showed a good dip. Foskey showed his quick first step and looked as good as he ever did on film on day 3. I don’t think Foskey’s draft stock moved much as I heard he was just easing in day one and really didn’t push himself because it had been quite a while since he was in pads. Foskey could easily have the upside of a first rounder but I think he will drop into the 2nd round because of the depth at the position and he didn’t separate himself when given the chance at the Senior Bowl.

Andre Carter, LB/Edge, Army
Andre Carter made it into the headlines on the first day of the Senior Bowl. The problem for Andre was that he was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Carter was being pushed around and slipped a lot day one. Carter had trouble acclimating himself to the speed of the game being played around him. However on day 3, Carter finally showed a lot of promise and had 3 sacks during team drills. Day 3 was crucial for Carter’s draft stock because as a collective I would say Carter had the worst week of the top talented players available. I believe Carter will drop to a day 2 or 3 pick now and a lot of analysts had him as a possible first rounder prior to the Senior Bowl.

KJ Henry, DE, Clemson
Henry had a decent Senior Bowl week and rumor has it he was battling a sickness the first 2 days. KJ seemed a little sluggish early on but turned up day 3 and showed all the intangibles required to be a day 3 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft..

Tyler Lacy, DE, Oklahoma St.
Tyler Lacy is a big man in the middle. It’s obvious his Senior Bowl coaching staff wanted to use his strength early in the week and move him from outside to inside. Lacy made it known he wasn’t going to be pushed around early, being the only interior lineman to beat John Michaeal Schmitz on day two of practice. This is notable because I believe Schmitz is the best center in the upcoming NFL draft. Lacy should be a late day 2 pick and his work at the Seniow Bowl should solidify this.

Karl Brooks, DE, Bowling Green
I love small school guys and have always loved how well Bowling Green players have shown up at the Senior Bowl. Karl Brooks played very solid and helped his stock rise from an UDFA to a possible final day selection. That is a good move for someone who didn’t have a lot of buzz heading into the Senior Bowl.

Lonnie Phelps, DE, Kansas
Lonnie Phelps came in with very good stats from last season and showed he has a solid motor. Phelps came to work everyday at the Senior Bowl, however his best day was the actual game itself. Lonnie showed a great rip move on several occasions and caused havoc in the backfield. Phelps transferred to Kansas after four years in Miami(OH) and he didn’t disappoint when it was time to play the game. Phelps rose from an UDFA to possible day 3 pick, which says a lot.

Will McDonald IV, DE, Iowa St.
Will McDonald was easily the biggest mover of the week from this group. McDonlad won in every aspect of every practice. Will is fast, strong and has great dip and swim moves. Will has the best sideline to sideline speed of anyone at the Senior Bowl. I’m going to make a Bold prediction that McDonald will be drafted in the first round! If McDonald drops to the 2nd round then someone is going to get a steal. Some evaluators had him as a 3rd to 4th round pick going into the senior bowl. Will is easily one of the top 45 players on my big board. The scary part is, Will McDonald could raise his stock even more with a good combine and or pro day.

Dylan Horton, DE/DL, TCU
Dylan Horton did plenty at the Senior Bowl to raise his draft stock. Many believed Horton was going to be a tweener and be pushed around a little bit but Dylan just outperformed many on the EDGE. Horton has quick feet and a solid bull rush. Horton is going to be an early day 2 selection and a possible starter in his rookie season in the NFL. Keep an eye on this Dylan Horton, I get serious Chandler Jones vibes from Him.

Ali Gaye, DE, LSU
Ali Gaye was an absolute presence on the field at the Senior Bowl this week. Standing in at 6 ‘6” with great sideline to sideline closing speed, Gaye impressed with his motor on a daily basis. Ali isn’t the biggest name to come out of LSU this season on the defensive line and it seems as if he has a chip on his shoulder for sure. Gaye showed an improved dip move with good strength and could be a solid day 3 pick

Zach Harrison, DE/DL, Ohio St.
Harrison didn’t have the best senior season at Ohio State but he managed to make up for it this week at the Senior Bowl. Harrison wasn’t popping off the charts everyday but he was the model of consistency day in and day out. As some may look for the next great defensive linemen, most teams just need a real solid depth player to come in and know their assignment. Harrison is very coachable and could have a very solid career and is projected to be a day 3 pick.

Jalen Redmond, DE/DL, Oklahoma
Jalen Redmond not just a few years ago had a life threatening injury and possibly could have never played football again. However here he is at the Senior Bowl putting up solid work everyday. Redmond stood out on day two, showing he has the ability to move inside and outside on the defensive line. This was very impressive to see. Redmond made enough noise at the senior bowl and I believe he went from an UDFA to a day three pick and this Sooner alum couldn’t be happier for him!

Tavius Robinson, DE/DL, Ole Miss.
Tavius Robinson was moved around a lot this week at the senior bowl because he, in a lot of scouts eyes, is considered a tweener. I believe Robinson could be a very good special teams player at the next level and I expect Robinson to be selected on the final day of the NFL Draft.
