PRO’S
Skinner packs a punch and makes his presence felt by the ball carrier. A high-motor player who doesn’t depend on others to make the play, he tracks the ball carrier and keeps himself in position to make the tackle when others don’t. Has length which is an intriguing asset for a center fielder and when he lines up against TEs in coverage. He trusts what he is seeing and assigned to do, when he makes his read, he commits.
CON’S
Does not always take the best angle when trying to stay on top of a route in deep zone coverage or when attacking the ball carrier from the middle/opposite field. His eagerness to make the play creates a disadvantage when the ball carrier changes direction/bounces it outside. He meets the ball carrier head on and loses when he’s at a disadvantage, would like to see him take the low road when necessary and just focus on getting the ball carrier down.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
Skinner is long, lean, fast, and plays the game with an edge. He has the ability to play deep center field as well as the ability to fill the alley like a box safety. I would like to see him be a little more patient at times, as a deep safety he can not over-pursue as he is the last line of defense. Teams will covet his length, aggressiveness and ability to read/react. His college production is impressive and is highlighted by his ’21 campaign with 92 total tackles, 7 TFL, 2 INTs, 3 PD, 2 FF.
