PRO’S

Achane is electric, quick, slippery, and decisive. Built for a zone blocking scheme, does a good job of finding the crease and hitting it. Never seems to be at a point where he’s at top gear and can’t downshift to make a cut or find a cut back lane. Stronger legs than I expected when I initially put on his film, he’ll fight for extra yardage and carry some defenders. Used out wide vs. LSU (2021), showed natural hands, ran mostly speed outs and vertical routes but saw a clean whip route.

CON’S

A slight frame, 5’9” 185 may be generous, I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes in smaller at the combine. Versus South Carolina he steps up and takes on blitzing LB, the form actually is not bad and the willingness is there, but he gets blown up. I don’t regularly see the power to break through open field tackles from defensive backs, I’d like to see him win more in this area.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Achane is a two sport athlete (football and track) with explosive speed and can gash defenses for chunk yardage at any given moment. He’s on the smaller side, but he runs with toughness and will not go down easily. He is also willing to throw his body around when trying to protect his QB. I don’t think he’ll be able to take on an every-down role in the NFL but his play-making ability will have his offensive coordinator doing everything he can to get him on the field as often as possible. Devon increased his total touches by 78 from 2021 to 2022, in 2 fewer games, this answers any questions about how much of a workload he can handle. Achane showed he can line up out wide, this will be a factor in keeping him on the field.
