PRO’S

Ball tracking and body control.Impressive extension for footballs outside of his body, natural hands catcher. Jones is only 5 ’11 ” but uses all of his frame to come down with the catch. QB-friendly, doesn’t allow the ball to get into his body, prevents defensive backs from having a late chance at a PBU. Deceptively uses his 4.43, paces his get off differently, this takes defenders out of a rhythm and keeps them on their toes. Good job of finding the hole in zone coverage and sitting. Jones is tough, he can take a heavy hit and he can fight through contact from bigger, more physical defenders and still secure the football.

CON’S

Jones lines up on the outside often, in the NFL he will be matched up with some physical corners and I’m not sure that his 175 lb frame can withstand those battles. Needs to work on getting off the line in press man, he has the quickness/footspeed but he’s predictable, rarely puts himself in position off the LOS to win without just pure speed/burst. His quickness does not match up with his breaks, given his agility scores I would expect more suddenness in and out of his breaks.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Jones is a plucker, if the ball is thrown anywhere near him he is going to come down with it. Jones has experience in the slot but for the most part was used on the outside for Purdue. Jones has a lot of potential given his natural receiving ability, high end straight line speed and quickness. I enjoyed watching Charlie’s match-up against Joey Porter Jr., Jones won his fair share and did not back-down. Jones led the NCAA in total Punt returns in 2020 (22) and 2021 (37).
