PRO’S

Joe Knows: High-motor, super energy player Bryan Bresee is an extremely powerful defensive tackle who often pushes interior defensemen around on run defense, and pushes them backwards on pass plays.  Combined with his elite burst and first step, Bresee is known for his upper body torque which he uses against run blockers to manhandle at times – very impressive to watch.  He uses his long, strong arms to gain leverage and get the first punch against his opponent.

Bresee is extremely athletic for a big man, making spin moves and possessing very impressive lateral agility which allows him to flow along the line.  Very strong hands combined with the rest of his strength, Bresee does not lose physical contests (at least not many).  Really nice arm movement.  Bresee is a big man who has the speed and athleticism to pursue QBs and RBs behind the line of scrimmage on busted plays.

DNow: Has a quick first step off the line. Knows how to use his hands to beat linemen. Can play anywhere on the line. Knows how to use his size and speed for his moves. Can drop his hips and get past linemen easily, and has the speed to change direction and make a play where need be.  Can use power moves to push lineman off of their spots and get in the backfield. Is a solid finisher, if he gets a hold of you you will be going down.

CON’S

Joe Knows: Bresee plays with the correct lower pad level at times, but doesn’t consistently do so.  This is highly correctable, however, with more experience and coaching in the NFL and is a frequent con against defensive lineman coming out of the NCAA.  As strong as he is, he does seem to have difficulty handling double-teams too often.  One concern of mine is that Bresee, who is a third year sophomore, had his best season as a freshman.

DNow: Durability is a big issue with Bresee, suffered an ACL tear and had other injuries that caused him to miss significant time throughout his career. Due to injuries and personal issues, hasn’t played a lot of snaps playing less than 1,000 snaps. But my biggest concern with Bresee is you dont know he’s there a majority of the time. Yes Clemson has had amazing Defensive Line units over the last couple of years, but there are games that he literally isn’t even in the state line.

OVERALL

Joe Knows: Bryan Bresee is one of top defensive tackles in this draft, and is quite possibly worthy of being a top-10 pick.  I don’t believe that he could be a nose tackle in the NFL, but he should be a highly disruptive force as a 4-3 DT or a 3-4 DE.  I consider Bresee to be one of the safer picks in a draft that is not nearly as deep, in my opinion, as the previous two classes at really any position.

DNow: I believe that Bryan Bresee is a lock to be a first round draft pick. The question I have is how will he be remembered. Will he finally put all the pieces together that made him the number one ranked prospect coming out of high school and become a perennial pro bowler, or will he just become a rotational defensive lineman that after 5 years people are like “he’s still in the league”? It honestly could go either way.
